Sándor Iharos

Sándor Iharos ( born March 10, 1930 in Budapest, † January 24, 1996 ) was a Hungarian athlete who came into existence in the 1950s as a middle and long distance runners. He made primarily for his world records Furore, however, was a runner with no luck: The records were only short-lived, and an international medal he won at the Olympic Games not yet at European Championships.

In 1955 Iharos participated in the Universiade in Warsaw and took over 5000 meters in 13:56,6 min to second place behind Poland's Jerzy Chromik (winner in 13:55,2 min).

In 1956 he joined the " Kusocinski Memorial" turn over 5000 meters and took the victory.

His last national championship he won over 5000 meters in 1961 ( 13:51,8 min). The year before, he was still double masters become over 5000 meters ( 14:00,8 min) and 10,000 meters ( 29:14,5 min) ( his championship title before 1960 are not used).

Olympic games

Sándor Iharos participated in two Olympic Games: 1952 in Helsinki and 1960 in Rome.

Making its debut in Helsinki in 1952, he started over 1500 meters, but had to finish fifth in its forward travel in 3:56,0 min the competition. Sándor Iharos participated in two European championships: 1954 in Bern about 1500 meters and 1958 in Stockholm over 5000 meters. Both times he came at a considerable distance to the sixth and last place.
