Sanoma

Sanoma Oyj is a Finnish media group with operations in 20 European countries. The company's headquarters is located in Helsinki. Before October 1, 2008, the company Sanoma WSOY said.

The Group is among the top five European magazine publishers and in addition to Finland strong market positions in the Netherlands, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Russia.

In Group 2007 approximately 19 587 people were employed. Sanoma formed in 1999 through a merger between the company Sanoma Corporation, WSOY ( Werner Söderström Osakeyhtio | Werner Söderström Corporation ) and Helsinki Media Company.

The company holds the majority in the Finnish commercial TV channel Nelonen and owns the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat. The Russian publishing house Independent Media Sanoma Magazines, a subsidiary of Sanoma Media, is one of the shareholders of the newspaper Vedomosti.

Sanoma has five business sectors:

  • Sanoma Media through four regional units ( Belgium, Finland, Netherlands, Russia & CEE)
  • Sanoma News ( newspaper )
  • Sanoma Learning ( Education Publications )
  • Sanoma Trade ( kiosks, bookstores )

In Germany Sanoma by Esmerk GmbH (Würzburg ) was represented, a subsidiary of Esmerk Oy, which was sold to M -Brain Oy in June 2012.
