Santeri Paloniemi

Santeri Paloniemi (born 8 November 1993, Kuusamo ) is a Finnish alpine skier. He specializes in the slalom and giant slalom.

Biography

Paloniemi was a talented hockey player in his youth, but decided at age 14 final for his second passion, skiing. He played the first FIS race in November 2008 as a 15- year-old. In February 2009 he took part in the European Youth Olympic Festival Szczyrk. The first victory in a FIS race he succeeded in January 2010 in Rovaniemi. On November 14, 2010, he came to Levi for the first time in a World Cup race, a field that scored the 44th. His debut in the European Cup he had three weeks later, in Åre.

At the Junior World Championships 2011 in Crans -Montana Paloniemi drove to fifth place in the slalom. Shortly thereafter, the participation followed at the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, where he was eliminated in the first run of the slalom. After the first podium finish in a European Cup races he won at the Junior World Championship 2012 in Roccaraso the gold medal in the slalom. This Paloniemi was allowed to start at the World Cup finals in Schladming, where he drove in the slalom in 17th place. At the World Cup finals, there is but only for the top 15 World Cup points, so he missed out. At the end of the season he won his first Finnish slalom title.

The first World Cup points won Paloniemi on November 11, 2012 in 24th place in the slalom in Levi. At the Junior World Championships in 2013, he received the bronze medal in the slalom. His previous best World Cup result is the 21st place in the slalom in Kranjska Gora on 10 March 2013.
