Sason

Sason (Armenian Sasun Սասուն; Arabic: Kabilcevz; Kurdish: Qabilcewz ) is a town and a district in Turkey. It belongs to the province of Batman and is located in Southeastern Anatolia. Sason located in the northern part of the province, bordering Diyarbakir, Bitlis and Muş. The district has 31,475 inhabitants Sason, the city of 11,322 (as of 2012).

The district is located in the Taurus Mountains. Important mountains are the Malato Tepesi ( 2973 m) and the Bulak Dagi. The Sason Creek empties into the Batman, a tributary of the Tigris.

History

After the Battle of Manzikert in the 11th century seems to be the local Byzantine commanders, T'ornik, son of Muschegh, son of Magister Gregorius Arsakides Pahlavouni to have raised the independent ruler. After a seal found at Beken he slept with the title Anthypatos and strategos of Sasun. He opposed the attempt of Philaretos Brachamios to build a united front against the Seljuks and gathered an army against him. He tried with the complete Emir Amr Bakr ' an alliance, but was killed by soldiers of the Emir of Maiyafariquin.

Sason was until 1880 part of the Sanjak in Siirt and Diyarbakır vilayet in 1892 part of the vilayet of Bitlis. Until 1927 it was part of the province of Muş until 1993 and part of Siirt. With the establishment of the province of Batman, it was incorporated into Batman. 1894 and 1904, came here to Armenian riots, where several thousand Armenians were killed in the crackdown. Until the early 20th century here were large Armenian communities. Today, mostly Arabs, Kurds and Zaza live here.
