Sassari-Tempio-Palau railway

The railway line Sassari Palau is a narrow gauge branch line in Sardinia. The 1931/32 opened railway line is now used only partially in regular traffic.

History

The Società Ferrovie anonima Settentrionali Sarde ( SFSS ) could open in two sections, the railway Sassari to Palau. The 91 km from Tempio Pausania to Sassari on 16 November 1931, the 46 km of Lura to Palau were opened on 18 January 1932. Between the railway line and Tempio Lura Monti -Tempio della Sardegna Pausania Ferrovie Complementari (FCS ) was used as well. As early as 1933 was the SFSS at the end and the Strade Ferrate Sarde (SFS ) took over the railway. 1941 took over the SFS and the railway line Monti -Tempio, thus a uniform schmalspuriges network was up to the closure of the route to Monticello in 1958 emerged.

In 1971, the SFS because of economic difficulties under state receivership. Since this also concerned the narrow- Ferrovie della Sardegna Complementari (FCS ), finally Ferrovie della Sardegna 1989 ( FdS ) was established, which eventually took over all existing Sardinian narrow gauge lines. Since 1997, only the railway line Sassari Nulvi is serviced regularly. Between Tempio and Palau Nulvi or wrong in the summer months the Trenino Verde.
