Saxon VI

The Saxon VI were express locomotives of the Royal Saxon State Railways.

History

Borsig had delivered in 1865 and nine Hartmann 1860-1867 24 locomotives to Western State Railways, which merged into the Royal Saxon State Railways in 1869. The delivered in 1870 by Hartmann further eight locomotives came directly to the state railway. As one B Eilzuglokomotiven they were, depending on the manufacturer, the Class B VI and H VI allocated. Schwartzkopff had delivered 1874 14 1 B express train locomotives at the Berlin- Dresden Railway. After the train had been nationalized in 1887 by Prussia, 1888 route and resources between Prussia and Saxony were divided. Six of these express locomotives received the K. Saxon. Sts. EB as a species Sw VI, the other eight came to the Prussian state railways. The Leipzig- Dresden Railway had in 1875 and 1876 each 6 steam locomotives procured by Henschel, who wore the genus characters HSch VI or HI VI since nationalization in 1876.

The first copies still had a Vierseitkuppelkessel by Stephenson and a fork frame. Later versions ( Schwartzkopff, Henschel) were built with a Cramptonkessel and a solid metal frame. Since their specifications, in part from those of the Borsig and Hartmann deliveries vary (smaller driving wheels, higher boiler pressure ), they are added to the table only at some points in parentheses. All specimens had horizontal outer cylinder. Two locomotives from the Hartmann- delivery of 1870 received 1885 Nowotny - barrel axis, so that the wheel arrangement changed in 1 ' B and the generic characters in H VIb. The older types of the genus VI ( since 1896 belonged to the manufacturer's specification is no longer generic ) were taken around the turn of the century from the service (until 1905), the Schwartzkopff and supplied by Henschel vehicles followed from 1910. Though these machines 1920 in the years were already rarities, three copies were still included in the provisional renumbering plan of the Deutsche Reichsbahn as 34 8001-8003, but in the final plan of 1925, the genus was not represented.
