Scheibe-Flugzeugbau

The disc - Flugzeugbau GmbH based in Dachau was a manufacturer of motor, powered sailplanes, gliders and ultralights.

History

Before the Second World War brought Dipl. -Ing. Egon disc flight Technical Section at the Technical University of Munich. It emerged at this time the doubles Mü 10 "Milan" and the Mü 13, with Kurt Schmidt Rhön competition was won in 1936. Typically, the hull construction was dissolved in steel tube design, which was also maintained at the following patterns Mü 15 and 17 mu.

On October 30, 1951, the company disc disc -Flugzeugbau GmbH. Production began on 15 November 1951 with the " Mü 13 E". This was the beginning of the legendary "Mountain Hawk " series, the " Atalante Mü 13 " from 1936 was based on the original sample. She received on 20 April 1952, the first type certificate in the Federal Republic of Germany. Saw for the future of the young company Egon disc ( born on 28 September 1908 in Munich) better development opportunities to a larger airfield. So could be rented at the airport Munich -Riem rooms and there even has its own wood shed to be built. While henceforth surfaces and hulls were built at Dachau, painting and final assembly took place mainly in Munich- Riem. Both because of the higher labor costs as well as other economic reasons arising therefrom was E. disk with this solution not completely satisfied. Therefore, the branch office in Munich -Riem was dissolved after only four years. Early 60s had established itself with several hundred delivered mountain hawks, sparrows and the powerful migratory birds firmly on the German market slice.

Disc then specialized in the 70s entirely on the Falcons (type SF 25 ), ie Motor gliders with seats next to each other in mixed construction. The engine gradually increased from 45 to 60, 80, and last optional up to 100 hp. With the 100 -horsepower Rotax engine of the Falcon is ideal for glider towing, otherwise because of the " slow" cell overpowered. Originally rigid central wheel with balloon tires received in 1976 a suspension. Even a decade later, turned around on a two- leg suspension, which however does not have the almost limitless crosswind capability of the central wheel. A total of over 1,200 falcons have been built, almost all flying in the clubs of Central Europe. There are sturdy, good-natured and economical lightweight engine aircraft, which are also capable of sailing in good thermals. However, the soaring performances leave no joy. The situation is different when the tandem Hawks SF 28 A, a version with rear side seats, a meter longer span and variable pitch propeller with feathering. The tandem - hawk sails much better, but this property was hardly asked, so that the type was discontinued at the end of the 70's after a few years of construction.

With the aircraft in GRP disc had no success. The two-seater SF 34 came in 1979 too late and had the Astir against the industrial production in coarse no chance. Similarly, later happened to the plastic motor glider SF -36 compared to competitors G109 coarse and still manufactured today Dimona, so that disc was totally dependent on the production of the hawks. To the extent that the motor glider market was saturated and as the handicraft production costs rose, the economic air for the company was increasingly thinner. Then there were succession problems after Egon disc was advanced in years have died " in his boots ."

In 2006, the production in Dachau was never resolved and the company. Type support of the disc - gliders and motor gliders in composite construction has since become the company DISC AIRCRAFT GMBH in Heubach, a company of the aviation operation velvet. In Heubach the production of a modified version of the SF 25 C is now underway, so that the hawk is to still have new plants for knit lovers. Also, all spare parts are available. At the Aero 2009 in Friedrichshafen disc Aircraft from Heubach again presented a modified version of the Hawk with increased payload, optionally with the turbocharged, 115 hp Rotax 914 payable - drive equipped. 2010 took over disc Aircraft also the rights and care patterns of SF -23 " sparrow " SF -34 "Dolphin " ( = Centrair " Alliance 34") and SF- 36th
