Geography

Schönenbach located in the Waldviertel in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the municipality covers 34.64 square kilometers. 58.6 percent of the area is forested.

History

Schoenbach 1351 was documented as a market and belonged to the rule Rappottenstein since the 14th century. Culture and sights

The great hall with three naves ( patronal feast Candlemas, construction period 1450-1457 ) is notable for its unusual vault: a delicate net vaulting in the nave and three-piece ribbed vaults in the aisles. The choir is designed with a fine stellar vault. The famous late Gothic winged altar Schönbacher in 1500 with five excellent resources cry sculptures and carved wings is South German or Frankish.
