Seamus Kotyk

Seamus Kotyk ( born October 7, 1980 in London, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender, who last played in the Austrian Hockey League the HC Innsbruck. Since August 2010 he has worked as goalkeeper coach of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Career

Seamus began his career in the Ontario Hockey League with the Ottawa 67 's. In his second season for Ottawa, he was pulled in the NHL Entry Draft in 1999 in the fifth round to 147th place out of the Boston Bruins, but never played a game for the team. Instead, he continued to play in Ottawa, and won with the team the J. Ross Robertson Cup playoff.

On 23 July 2001, he signed as a free agent with the San Jose Sharks, where he was working for their farm team, the Cleveland Barons in the American Hockey League. In the season 2004/ 05 he moved to the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL and played some games for their farm team the Rockford IceHogs.

On April 17, 2005 Kotyk was the only eighth in the AHL the goalkeeper in one game scored a goal. He scored three minutes before the end of the season the puck into the empty net the San Antonio Rampage and sealed the 4-1 victory of his team, the Milwaukee Admirals.

Kotyk but did not succeed, to prevail in the Minor Leagues. He moved to Europe in 2006 and played five games for the EHC Wolfsburg in the second hockey league, before taking him by the then newcomer HK Jesenice EBEL under contract. With him, however, the team just missed the playoffs. Kotyk changed for the following season to league rivals HC Innsbruck, where he, however, was injured during the course of the season and has now been replaced by the Finns Mikko Strömberg. Also in the 2008 /09 Kotyk fell for some time from injured and was again replaced by Strömberg.

After the season, the HC Innsbruck opted for a retreat from the EBEL and Kotyks contract was not renewed. After that, he was without a club until he was again obliged by HC Innsbruck in January 2010.
