Seravezza

Seravezza is an Italian commune in the province of Lucca with 13,185 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012).

Geography

Seravezza located in the hinterland of Versilia, on the slopes of the Apuan Alps, is one of the highest peaks of the Altissimo with 1859 m. On the Altissimo is the highest quarry for Carrara marble. The river originates in Versilia Seravezza from the confluence of the rivers Serra and Vezza. This gave the community its name.

The neighboring communities are Forte dei Marmi, Massa (MS ), Montignoso (MS ), Pietrasanta and Camaiore.

Fractions ( districts )

Although the eponymous district Seravezza houses the administration of the municipality, the more important the center is but Querceta. The most populous district is Pozzi. Other fractions are Naceri, Rimagno, Ruosina, Ripa, Marzocchino, Azzano, Arni, Corvaia and Cafaggio.

Attractions

The Villa Medici Seravezza was built in the 16th century by Cosimo I de ' Medici and was the summer residence of the Medici family. Today it houses a museum of traditional crafts of Versilia and has spaces for temporary exhibitions of modern and contemporary art.

Seravezza maintains a partnership with Calatorao in Spain.
