The international airport of the archipelago of the Seychelles ( IATA: SEZ, ICAO: FSIA ) is located on the main island of Mahe Island, near the capital of Victoria and is the only international airport of the state in the Indian Ocean. The airport has two official names, for a Seychelles International Airport ( English) and on the other, Aéroport International de Seychelles (French), since both languages ​​belong to the Seychelles to the official languages.

The airport is the hub for the national airline Air Seychelles.

History

On 20 March 1972, the British Queen Elizabeth II opened the international airport of the island group. The opening was one of the largest events of the island nation. The airport was necessary because the weekly ferry to Mombasa on Madagascar was no longer sufficient.

In the same year John Faulkner Taylor founded the first airline in the Seychelles, Mahe Island Air which was called, and several small planes stationed at the new airport near Victoria. Since July 1980, the airport is being expanded continuously since the passenger traffic and freight volumes have increased dramatically in recent years. An additional terminal for domestic traffic Praslin and La Digue was also built alongside a cargo terminal. The domestic terminal is reachable since the expansion walk to all transit passengers from the International Terminal.

It is planned a tram line in the capital Victoria.

Objectives

Air Seychelles Seychelles combines with some international destinations in Africa and Asia. There are codeshare agreement with Air France, Air Berlin, Interair South Africa and the Condor service. In addition, only starts after Air Seychelles Praslin or Bird Iceland and is the only airline for domestic traffic.
