Shamil Sabirov

Shamil Altajewitsch Sabirov (Russian Шамиль Алтаевич Сабиров; born April 4, 1959 in Karpinsk, Sverdlovsk Oblast ) is a former Soviet boxer.

In 1978, Sabirov part in the Amateur World Championships in Belgrade, but was thwarted by a first-round KO in the first round. 1979 in Cologne, he was at the age of 20 years, Europe champion in the light flyweight. In the final he defeated while the representative of the GDR, Dietmar Greilich. He then took part in the Olympic Games in 1980 and won the gold medal in his weight class. At the European Championships 1981 in Tampere he reached a third place, where he lost in the semifinals of the Bulgarians Ismail Mustafow. In 1982, he failed again at the World Championships in Munich in the preliminary round.
