Shane Battier

Shane Battier Courtney ( born September 9, 1978 in Birmingham, Michigan ) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for the Miami Heat in the NBA.

Biography

Battier was born in Birmingham in the U.S. state of Michigan, and grew up there. He attended the Derby Middle School and then the Detroit Country Day School, where he noticed through his basketball talent and in 1997 as Michigan's "Mr. Basketball " was honored.

Battier then attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, where he played under head coach Mike Krzyzewski. He led the "Blue Devils " in 1999 and 2001 under the Final Four of the NCAA tournament. 1999 lost the "Blue Devils " against the " Huskies " the University of Connecticut in the finals two years later they won the national championship after they had the " Wildcats " of the University of Arizona defeated.

Battier was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies as a total of 6 pick of the NBA Draft 2001. For his achievements in the first year as a pro Battier was appointed to the NBA All- Rookie First Team in 2002.

Battier is a mobile player who can act as well as post on the three -point line both low. It is by its size and speed to be able to defend three positions ( shooting guard, small forward and power forward ).

On 28 June 2006 Battier was issued by the Grizzlies in exchange for Stromile Swift and Rudy Gay to the Houston Rockets.

Battier returned on 24 February 2011 back in exchange for Hasheem Thabeet and a first-round draft pick to the Grizzlies. There he wrote for the 2011/2012 season a new contract and joined the Miami Heat, with whom he could pick in 2012 went straight to the NBA title.
