Shay Elliott Memorial Race

The Shay Elliott Memorial is a one-day cycling race that will be held in Ireland since 1958.

Initially the race was called Route de Chill Mhantain. In the late 1960s, it was named in honor of Seamus Elliott, the first Irishman who captured the yellow jersey in the Tour de France, Shay Elliott Trophy. The winner was honored by Elliott himself. After his death in 1971, it was renamed again in Shay Elliott Memorial. The Elliott is considered the most important one-day races in Ireland under the National Road Championship.

By 2001, the race was a national competition.
