She's Having a Baby

She is having a baby is an American comedy from 1988, directed by John Hughes. Alternative title is child's play to the big happiness.

Action

The film illustrates a satirical way in popular culture existing common stereotypes, stereotypes and fears of young couples and newly wedded couple. These are illustrated by the example of Kristy and Jake Briggs:

The loving couple from Chicago married at the beginning of the film, but is viewed by its environment partly as premature, since both are still relatively young. Pretty soon discrepancies occur first, as both Jake and Kristy at each other find some unpleasant quirks.

Jake is in the course of the film plot in two ways at the center: on the one hand as he expresses his thoughts in the form of voiceover and on the other by quite bizarre daydream visions, expressing his fears and anxieties about the married life.

After bumpy start, the marriage couple moved first to New Mexico, where Jake tries to make his college degree, but fails. Both return some time later in their hometown, where they slowly build a tranquil family life: Kristy gets a job in a research lab, Jake managed to get ( by clever fib ) a job in an advertising agency and eventually move into a suburban house. Only one thing is missing for family happiness: a baby.

However, the whole thing is difficult: First, Jake must make friends only with the thought of a baby, then fails Kristy's attempt putting the pill and finally both plan almost military precision procreation, but this is ultimately crowned with success. But until birth, it is still a long way, especially for Jake. Meanwhile daydreams from the baby and stifling suburban family life take him more and more. But in the end he realizes that his selfishness was responsible for the past and future problems and he finally comes to terms with the ( early ) Father role.

In the end, everything will be good and after a rather chaotic journey to childbirth Jake and Kristy can close her child in her arms, making the family fortune is now complete. Meanwhile, make their environment as well as various other personalities have to worry about the baby's name ...

Criticism

" A quiet, unspectacular satirical tales with deeper meaning, the hasty way around timbered life plans and conceptions of happiness satirized in the mixing of multiple levels of reality "
