Shenkursky District
The Schenkurski rayon (Russian Шенкурский муниципальный район / Schenkurski munizipalny rayon ) is an administrative unit within the Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia. It is located south of the Oblasthauptstadt Arkhangelsk. The administrative center is the city Shenkursk.
Geography
The Schenkurski rayon is located in the southern part of Arkhangelsk Oblast. To the west of Rajons limits the Rajone Njandomski and Plessezki, north of Winogradowski rayon, east of Werchnetojemski rayon, southeast of Ustjanski rayon and south of Welski rayon. The area of Rajon is 11.2 thousand km ². Coming from the south flows through the 575 km Waga the entire Rajon before they left each other flows with Beresnik in the Northern Dvina.
History
The area of present-day Schenkurski rajon was originally settled by Finno- Ugric settlers. 1315 Schenkurski Pogost was first mentioned. In 1552 the area was part of the Waschki Ujesd ( Важский уезд ) was. 1710 for the Ujesd Oblast Waschka was ( Важский область ) within the Gouvernementes Archangelogorod. The Oblast Waschka 1780 Ujesd in the Schenkurski and Welski divided Ujesd. In 1897 the Schenkurski already Ujesd 76 759 inhabitants, with an area of 21779.1 Quadratwersten (equivalent to 23,234 km ²).
In 1929, the Schenkurski rajon was founded as part of the Northern Krai ( Северный край ). Initially, this had an area of 7700 km ², but enlarged in the course of numerous administrative reforms over time. From the year 1936, the Rajon part of the Northern Oblast was ( Северная область ). On September 23, 1937 Rajon went to in the territory of the newly founded Arkhangelsk Oblast.

The Rajon is divided into twelve municipalities ( муниципальное образование ), including one municipality ( городское поселение ) and eleven rural communities ( сельское поселение ).
