Shire of Banana

- 24.383333333333150.5Koordinaten: 24 ° 23 ' S, 150 ° 30' E The Shire of Banana is a Local Government Area ( LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland. The area is 28,550 km ² and has about 14 500 inhabitants.

Geography

The Shire is located in the east of the state about 425 km north- west of the capital Brisbane.

The largest town and administrative headquarters of the LGA is Biloela with about 5400 inhabitants. Other towns are Banana, Baralaba, Cracow, Dululu, Goovigen, Jambin, Moura, Taroom, Thangool, Theodore and Wowan.

History

After 1850, the area was used for cattle breeding and 1862 did the town Banana, named after the ox of an animal breeder. From 1880 to 1930, the main town of the district of it, then the county seat was moved to Rannes and since 1944 is the Council in Biloela at home. In 2008, the Shire was amalgamated with a large part of Taroom Shire.

Management

The Banana Shire Council has seven members. Six Councillor elected by the residents of the six divisions ( constituencies ). The Council President and Mayor ( Mayor ) is also elected by all residents of the Shire.
