Silvestre Varela
Silvestre Manuel Gonçalves Varela ( born February 2, 1985 in Almada ) is a Portuguese football player.
Private
His brother Carlos is also a professional football player and active in Almada. Silvestre Varela has, like Portugal and the nationality of the African Republic of Cape Verde.
Playing career
Silvestre Varela comes from the youth of Portugal 's top clubs Sporting Lisbon. In the 2004/05 season he was loaned to the club unterklassigen Portuguese Casa Pia AC. After he returned for half a year to Sporting, Silvestre Varela joined on loan for 18 months to first division rivals Vitória Setúbal. There he was able to work out a regular place and prevail in Portugal. Since 2009, he plays for FC Porto. On December 7, 2013 Varela completed his 100th league game for FC Porto.
For the 2007 /08 season he was loaned to Spanish side Recreativo Huelva, returned to the season but returned to Sporting. He was U -21 national team of Portugal.
Internationally
On 3 March 2010 Varela was used for the first time for the Portuguese national team. He came on in the second half of the friendly match against China in Coimbra. On March 26, 2011, he scored his first goal for Portugal in a 1-1 draw against Chile in Leiria.
Varela was called by Portugal's national team coach Paulo Bento in the squad for the 2012 European Football Championship and came for ten minutes in the first group match against Germany on June 9, 2012 used, whereby he awarded shortly before the final whistle, the last great opportunity to score the Portuguese against Manuel Neuer. In the second group match against Denmark, he came on again just before the end as a "wild card " and hit four minutes later in the 88th minute for a 3-2 winning goal for Portugal.
