Simca Alvorada

Simca Chambord Brazil ( original model )

The Simca Alvorada was a cheaper version of the Simca Chambord Brazil, the first model, the Simca do Brasil built in Brazil. The Chambord Brazil was a luxury car and corresponded closely to the French edition of Chambord based on the Simca Vedette. As of March 1959, the Chambord Brazil with an enlarged engine, 3 -speed manual transmission with column shift and first from imported parts from France was made . The sedan was produced until 1969 in various versions and forms (including the Alvorada ) of Simcas Brazilian subsidiary in its plant in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil.

Alvorada is the name of revenge

The Simca Alvorada was a radically scaled-down version of the posh Chambord Brazil and the result of a request by the Brazilian government of President Juscelino Kubitschek. Here, every car manufacturer in Brazil had to offer a cost- based version of its respective series. The idea behind it was to give as many Brazilians as possible the chance to own a car.

While this was welcome news for Volkswagen, which could easily offer a reduced-price version, as it already gave them in Europe, with the VW Beetle. Simca do Brasil, however, had it, in contrast to Europe, made in Brazil, to position itself as a manufacturer of luxury class. Therefore, it was not at all happy about the plans and decided reluctantly to create an entry-level version of its Chambord. Thus appeared, technically the same, 1963, a stripped down version with only two colors as an option, gray or yellow, without any chrome and embellishments and a very simple interior. As a silent protest this car was named after the presidential palace in the capital, Brasilia: Palácio da Alvorada. Were built only 378 copies, and in 1965 the Alvorada was replaced by the even more reduced Simca Profissional.
