Simon (given name)

Simon (variant: Simeon ) is a male first name. The female form is in German Simone ( Simone is in Italian, however, the masculine form, the feminine is Simona ).

Origin and Meaning of the Name

The name Simon ( Σιμων ) comes from the Hebrew word שִׁמְעוֹן ( Shim'on ), " has heard The [God ] " with what is translated.

In the Bible we find the form of Simeon. There are numerous people before with this name. In the Old Testament is called one of the progenitors of the Twelve Tribes of Israel Simeon. In the New Testament bears a devout Israelite who first recognizes in Jesus of Nazareth the promised Messiah, the name Simeon.

Anniversaries

October 28 is the feast of the Apostle Simon the Zealot. His surname is Zelotes (Greek for " zealot "). Simon is said to have suffered along with the Apostle Jude Thaddeus his martyrdom. According to tradition, he was reportedly cut in half with a saw. The saw is therefore its attribute. The Catholic Memorial of Simeon, bishop of Jerusalem, is February 18. Apostles and Bishops are likely to have been the same person.
