Sixto Durán Ballén
Sixto Durán Ballén Cordovez (* July 14, 1921 in Boston, USA) is an Ecuadorian politician and former President of Ecuador and architect. He served as president during the period 10 August 1992 to 10 August 1996 to 1995, Alberto Dahik was his vice president, Eduardo Peña followed the same position.
Biography
Sixto Durán Ballén was born in Boston, since his parents stayed there professionally. He spent his youth in the United States, where he also studied architecture at Columbia University in New York. Then he got from former Ecuadorian president Galo Plaza Lasso the contract to rebuild the city of Ambato, since it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1949. Now In Ecuador, he and Camilo Ponce Enríquez the Partido Social Cristiano.
In February 1995, during his tenure as president, a border conflict intensified with Peru, ( entre el Perú Conflicto limitrofe y el Ecuador), the Guerra del Cenepa up to the mobilization of reservists. Peru was ruled at that time by Alberto Fujimori.
