Social Democratic and Labour Party

The Social Democratic and Labour Party ( SDLP ) ( Irish: Páirtí Sóisialta Daonlathach to Lucht Oibre ) is a 1970 inter alia, Founded by Ivan Cooper and later Nobel Peace John Hume party the Republican side in Northern Ireland.

It strives for unification of Northern Ireland with the Republic of Ireland by peaceful means. In November 2003 she had to give to the IRA related party Sinn Féin in the Northern Ireland Assembly election for the leadership in the Republican camp. 2011 held the SDLP 14 of 108 seats in the Northern Ireland Assembly.

For the election of the House of Commons on 5 May 2005, she was able to maintain its three seats. Although she lost the seat in the constituency of Newry and Armagh Sinn Féin, but was the constituency of South Belfast by the Ulster Unionist Party, their Protestant partner in the peace process gain. In the election to the House on May 6, 2010, the SDLP won three of the 18 Northern Ireland seats.
