Soonlepa ( German Soonlep ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Pühalepa ( Pühalepa vald ). It is the second largest Estonian island of Hiiumaa ( German Dagö ).

Description

Soonlepa has 23 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011) .. The village is located 22 kilometers from the island capital Kärdla ( Kertel ) away. From Soonlepa there extends a broad views of the Baltic Sea and the islands around Hiiumaa.

Good Soonlepa

The estate of Soonlepa was first mentioned in 1453, when it was a Peter given from the heart as a fief. At that time it belonged to Suuremõisa ( Grossenhof ). To 1785 it became independent. Last Baltic German owner before the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform in 1919 was Baroness Dorothea Stackelberg (born Ungern Sternberg ).

The mansion is no longer preserved. On display are some outbuildings and two-story distillery, which was later converted into a stable. Worth seeing is the wine cellar dating back to 1855.
