Sophia Griebel

Sophia Griebel (born 7 June 1990) is a German skeleton pilot.

Sophia Griebel from Eger began in 2005 with the sport of skeleton and starts for the RT Suhl. The German national team she has been on since 2007. At the beginning of 2006, she started for the first time at the German Championships and was 20th in Winterberg in the Junior Championships, she finished ninth. 2008 Griebel reached at the German championships in Altenberg already the ninth. Then she made her debut in the European Cup skeleton. In St. Moritz, she finished tenth in their first race. Top ten rankings should be since the normality for Griebel. A first result on the podium as she reached second in two races in Altenberg in December 2008. In January 2009 she won in St. Moritz the first time a European Cup races. The following season began excelling for Griebel. The first three races of the season at Koenigssee and Altenberg could take it, and be in two of the next three races Second. That was enough for the European Cup overall victory this season. The next season they played in the America's Cup and was able to directly win the first two races in Park City. Then they denied the season in Skeleton Intercontinental 2010/2011. Again, they won the first two races in Winterberg and Altenberg. The remaining six races of the season she finished second and won the race series, far ahead of the former world champion Michelle Kelly. End of the season was the last race of the America's Cup in Lake Placid, where they only Lanette preacher was beaten. Thus it was in the race series in only three of eight possible participations third overall behind preachers and Jaclyn Laberge. In the FIBT Ranking she was named best athlete, who could not start in the World Cup, 15 Her debut in the World Cup was the Junior World silver medalist thanks to their placement in the Junior World Championships on January 4, 2013 at bobsleigh track in Altenberg, where they in ninth straight away went into the top ten.
