Sorengo

Sorengo is a municipality in the district of Vezia, district of Lugano in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland and consists of the districts Cortivallo and creamy None.

Geography

Sorengo situated on a hill between Lake Lugano and the lake of Muzzano to which borders the municipality. Neighboring communities, the city of Lugano, in the southern Collina d' Oro and the west Muzzano in the north and east.

History

The place is attested as a church since 1298; until the 18th century, the district Cortivallo maintained a certain independence. Ecclesiastically the first place belonged to Lugano, before its own parish was established here. From 1565 to 1653 there was a Capuchin monastery, which was then moved to Lugano.

The clinic Sant'Anna has existed since 1934, and since 1986, the American Private University Franklin College Switzerland domiciled in the community.

The earlier peasant village was fast becoming a residential community in the greater Lugano, which made from the 1950s is noticeable in the sharp increase in the number of inhabitants.
