South American Women's Football Championship

The football World Grand Prix Women (Spanish Sudamericano Femenino ) is organized by the South African continental federation CONMEBOL and is played since 1991. Reigning champions and with five titles record winner is Brazil.

History and mode

In the first two tournaments only three or five countries participated. Since 1998, attended by all ten members of CONMEBOL. Brazil and Chile are the only countries that were attended. The tournament was first held at irregular intervals since 2006, held every four years in the year before the World Cup of Women, and also serves as its qualification. In addition, are determined at the Olympic Football Tournament Women with the tournament participants. Currently CONMEBOL are two participants at the World Championships and the Olympics.

Except for Bolivia each team was able to achieve a place in the top four, but only Venezuela, as only three teams participated at least once. In contrast to the Copa America, the South American championship in men's soccer, take no guest teams from foreign Confederations part in the tournament.
