South Jeolla Province

Jeollanam -do ( South Jeolla ) is a province in the southwest of South Korea. To the north it borders Jeollabuk -do, on the east by Gyeongsangnam -do. In the south of the province is bounded by the Korea Strait, to the west by the Yellow Sea. Jeollanam -do in 1896, the division of the former province of Jeolla -do. The administrative headquarters was relocated in 2005 from the independent of the provincial town in the district of Gwangju Muan.

Geography

Nearly 2,000 islands are scattered along the south coast in Jeollanam -do, about three-quarters of which are uninhabited. The length of the coastline is about 6400 km. It has a mild and humid climate with an annual rainfall of about 1400 mm.

Jeollanam -do has three national parks and four managed by the provincial nature parks and attracts by its coastal location and pleasant climate, many vacationers to.

Economy

The catch of oysters and the production of algae in Jeollanam -do are leaders in South Korea. The province is mountainous part. The plains of the rivers Somjin, Yeongsan and Tamjin are ideal for the cultivation of cereals. The humid climate allows the cultivation of rice, wheat, barley and lentils, are next to potatoes, vegetables, fruits like Naju pears and cotton important.

It is mined some gold and coal in Jeollanam -do, the industry in the province, however, is developed. In Daebul on the southwestern tip of the peninsula, a new industrial complex, which from its proximity to China ( Shanghai) and Taiwan created to benefit.
