The Spirit class is a series of Panamax cruise ships of the British-American cruise operator Carnival Corporation & plc.

For the design and construction of the ships, the American Carnival Corporation commissioned the Finnish Kvaerner Masa Yards in Turku AB. It was intended from the outset to build a whole series of ships and to distribute them over different cruise brands of the Group. Default to the shipyard was that the ships should be given the greatest possible number of cabins on the outside, ideally with a balcony, with only a minimal perceptible vibrations. On the other hand, however, that the Panamax specifications, ie just allowable size and depth for passage through the Panama Canal are complied with.

From the year 2009, Carnival Corporation & plc announced the contract to build the hybrid Spirit-/Vista-Klasse to the shipyard Fincantieri Cantieri Nav - Italiani SpA, to which to combine the advantages of the Spirit - class Vista-class, the since 2003 has been successful especially for the premium brand, Holland- America Line in use.
