In its main features, the design can be traced back to the ships of the Spirit class, which were built between 1999 and 2004 on behalf of the American Carnival Corporation in the Finnish Kvaerner Masa Yards AB, today's STX Finland Oy. The similarities between the two construction classes include primarily the Panamax compliant hull width of 32.20 m and the drive over two propeller gondolas of the type ABB Azipod with a total capacity of 35.24 MW. The drive systems are equipped with 4-blade fixed pitch propellers and allow a speed of up to 24 knots. Power supply and distribution systems, ship automation and the two drive systems were designed, developed and built by ABB.

Type of ship Vista class is the Zuiderdam, which was placed the end of 2002 for the premium brand Holland America Line in service.

Vista-class

History

The Zuiderdam, the first ship in the Vista-class was laid on 18 April 2001 with the hull number 6075 at Fincantieri in Marghera on Kiel. Then the company decided yet during the construction phase to transfer the modified, extended at 289.90 m Hull with the yard number 6078 to the Cunard Line and to bring as Queen Victoria in driving. However, after the keel was laid on 12 July 2003 there were numerous restructuring following the merger of the first purely American Carnival Corporation, the cruise division of the British P & O to today's world market leader Carnival Corporation & plc. The gas turbine is installed together with the two 12 - cylinder engines in the front of the two machinery spaces. The overall performance of the machine system is 65.840 kW, with 14 MW are provided by the gas turbine. In general, the ships are operated with diesel generators, the gas turbine is used only in lanes with stringent environmental regulations for use.
