The Carnival Legend (German legend) (now STX Finland Cruise Oy) built in Helsinki as the third ship in the Spirit class for Carnival Corporation & plc, yard number 501 at the shipyard Kvaerner Masa Yards AB. As a ship theme, the interior designer Joseph Farcus chose the Greek mythology. In engineering and deck layouts, the Carnival Legend is broadly consistent with other ships of the " Spirit " class.

The flooding of the building docks took place on 12 December 2001 to coincide with the handover of the sister ship Carnival Pride. On 14 August 2002, the completed Carnival Legend could be delivered to the shipping company Carnival Cruise Lines. The actress Dame Judi Dench performed the baptism a week later in the English port of Harwich.

Use

After the commissioning of the Carnival Legend was initially from various American ports to cruises. Including Philadelphia and Baltimore, who had been admitted for the first time in the program of the shipping company in 2004. The Carnival Legend was the first ship that was for Carnival Cruise Lines in European waters in use. In addition to 12-day cruises that led to Northern Europe, including Atlantic crossings were offered. Special events

  • During the naming ceremony on 21 August 2002 required godmother Dame Judi Dench three attempts to smash the champagne bottle on the hull. When the bottle shattered with the help of Captain Claudio Cupisci, Dench was splattered with the content. She took the incident with humor.
  • On 13 July 2005, the Carnival Legend was on his way from Tortola to New York City. Against 15:10 clock the ship suddenly turned hard to starboard and reached it 14 degrees angle. In this maneuver a few passengers were slightly injured. Cause was a computer glitch. Compensation was not granted.
  • On the morning of August 3, 2005, there was heavy smoke in the lower decks in the bow of the ship. The passengers were asked to take the upper open decks. According to the cruise director there had been a problem in the engine room.
  • During the cruise, a 35 -year-old passenger was pronounced dead after he had jumped into the night May 27, 2006 during a family dispute from the balcony of his cabin on board. The ship remained eleven hours 450 miles north-east of Florida in the sea area and arrived in New York the next day only against 20 clock. The body was never found.
  • On 30 September 2009 the ship when dropping in Cozumel ( Mexico) was pushed by a strong wind against the flank of the Enchantment of the Seas Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. Both ships were slightly damaged, but their journey could continue after being released by the authorities.
