St John's College, Cambridge

The St John 's College is a college of the University of Cambridge, England. It was founded in 1511 by Lady Margaret Beaufort and is named after the Trinity College and Homerton College, the college with the third largest student population in Cambridge.

St John 's is one of the wealthiest colleges with foundation volume of 225 million pounds sterling, and an income of 7.6 million pounds pa (2003). Members of the College received a total of ten Nobel Prizes. The college also has a world-famous college choir.

Each year, the College confers prestigious and generous scholarships to graduate students under the " Benefactors ' Scholarships Scheme ". Part of this scholarship scheme are the Craik Scholarship, the JC Hall Scholarship, the Luisa Aldobrandini Studentship Competition, the Paskin Scholarship and the Pelling Scholarship. The competition for these scholarships is extremely hard, as students of all countries who wish to complete any graduate degree (and not just college members), may apply.

  • William Edmund Hick (1912-1974), pioneer of cognitive science and ergonomics
