Stanley Bacon

Stanley Vivian Bacon ( born August 13, 1885 in Camberwell, † October 13, 1952 in Streatham ) was a British wrestler and Olympic gold medalist at the Olympic Summer Games 1908 in free style at middleweight.

Career

Stanley Vivian Bacon comes from the south of England. He started as a teenager with the rings in the then customary in England free style. Stanley won in the period 1910-1925 a total of eight times the British championship from lightweight to heavyweight.

In 1908 he qualified for the Olympic Games in London. There he started in free style at middleweight and won with four wins the gold medal. In the final battle Stanley defeated his compatriot George de Relwyskow, who had previously won the gold medal in lightweight. 1911 to Stanley at the Festival of Empire in London, a precursor of the Commonwealth Games, won.

At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 Stanley had in the unfamiliar for him Graeco-Roman. Start style because no competitions took place in free style. He did not get along in this style and was eliminated in the 37 wrestlers with very strong field middleweight class after two defeats from unplaced.

Finally, Stanley started with 35 years even at the Summer Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920. He could indeed compete here in free style again, but dropped out after a defeat and was placed on the 11th Place.

Stanley Vivian Bacon was active from 1910 also as a wrestler trainer in the Boy Scouts. One of his best students was Stanley Bissell, who was in the 1930s one of the best English freestyle wrestler.
