Steffen Søberg

Steffen Søberg (* August 6, 1993 in Oslo) is a Norwegian ice hockey goaltender, who also has the American citizenship. He is since 2012 when Vålerenga IF in the Norwegian GET - ligaen under contract.

Career

Søberg began his career in the youth department of Manglerud Star and went through many ages of the club before making his debut in the 2009/10 season at the age of 16 years in the sub-prime first divisjon, where he 17 games with the second team of the club denied. At the end of the season he was named to the first team and completed three games in the regular season and four playoff games. The following season he was able to earn a place in the squad for the first team to hit 27 inserts in the GET ligaen.

In the NHL Entry Draft 2011 Søberg was selected in the fourth round at 117th position of the Washington Capitals and was the first Norwegian goalkeeper who has ever drafted by a team from the National Hockey League. Subsequently, the Swift Current Broncos chose him out of the Western Hockey League in sixth position overall in the CHL Import Draft from. After spending three weeks in training camp with the team, but he returned again to Norway and played one more season for Manglerud Star.

Prior to the 2012/13 season the 18 -year-old signed a contract for four years with the Vålerenga IF and was new goalkeeper of the club from Oslo. He played in the regular season then inserts 42 and then led the team to the finals of the play-offs, where they, however, the Stavanger Oilers defeated. Søberg was appointed team of GET ligaen All-Star at the end of the season.

Internationally

Steffen Søberg first stood at the Under-18 Junior World Championship Division I in 2010 in the squad of the Norwegian team, remained in the tournament but without use. In the Under-18 Junior World Cup 2011, he played six games and was able to reach the second highest quota of the tournament. In the same year he also took part in the U20 World Youth Championship.

In the U20 Junior World Championship 2013 in the sub-prime Division 1A Søberg led the Norwegian team of Turnierbestleistungen at Gegentorschnitt and catch quota for promotion to the top division and was named the best player of the Norwegian selection. Then he got to the World Series in 2013 his first appointment to the Men's National Team, remained as the third goalkeeper but without use.
