Sten Suvio

Sten Suvio ( born November 25, 1911 in Hannila at Viipuri, † October 19, 1988 in Helsinki) was a Finnish welterweight boxer and Olympic champion from 1936 in Berlin.

Career

Sten Suvio was born in the village Hannila in Viipuri. 1929 and 1930 he was a Finnish runner. From 1933 to 1936, he was four times in a row Finnish welterweight champion.

In 1936 he traveled to the Olympic Games in Berlin. He defeated Ri Keika from Japan, Arthur L. Cook from Australia, the Hungarian Imre Madin and the Danes Gerhard Peddersen. In the final he met the German Michael Murach, whom he defeated and also Olympic champion.

After his Olympic victory, he joined 24 -year-old in the professional boxing.

Professional career

His first professional fight, he played on 18 November 1936 in the Harringay Arena in London against British David McCleave. Sten Suvio lost in the eight round bout on points.
