Stephen Ferrando

Stephen Ferrando SDB (born 28 September 1895 in Rossiglione, Italy, † June 21, 1978, Italy ) was an Italian religious priest, missionary and Roman Catholic bishop.

Life

Ferrando was consecrated on March 18, 1923 at the Salesian Institute of Borgo San Martino, Alessandria priest. A few months later, on December 2, 1923, he went together with nine other brothers in the mission to British India. On December 23, 1923, he reached Shillong, the capital of the province of Assam and the Apostolic Prefecture of Assam. There he worked among other things as novice master and catechist. In 1929 he became director of the Our Lady 's House branch in Shillong.

During this time, the Holy See entrusted to the Salesians in the Archdiocese of Madras, the diocese of Krishnagar and the Apostolic Prefecture of Assam. On July 9, 1934 Ferrando was ordained in Nadiab, the island city in the province of Bengal to the Bishop of Krishnanagar and took on the same day the diocese in possession. He chose Aposolus Christ as bishop saying. After the Prefecture of Assam had been raised to the bishopric Shillong, Ferrando took this on 26 November 1935 as the second bishop. He remained in this position until his retirement on 26 June 1968. Ferrando was appointed Titular Bishop of Troyna and retired to Italy.

Process of beatification

For Ferrando a process of beatification was opened. After the diocesan start the Positio super vita et virtutibus is made since 28 November 2006.
