Sternberg

Sternberg is a municipality in the district of Pfäffikon of the canton of Zurich in Switzerland. On 1 January 2015, the merger is decided with the community Bauma.

Geography

The village Sternberg, located at about 900 m above sea level. M. in the Zurich Oberland, making it the highest municipality in the canton. It is located approximately 40 km east of Zurich, close to the main town district Pfäffikon.

The Reformed Church is located at 870 m above sea level. Level, the highest point is 1,073 m above sea level on the Chlihörnli. M.. , The lowest point is at 660 m above sea Steinenbachtal. M..

History

The community Sternberg belonged until 1798 to the County of Kyburg, during the Helvetic Republic to the district Fehraltorf and during the mediation period to the district Uster. The Church in Sternberg was built in the years 1705 and 1706 from the stones of the castle Sternberg and inaugurated on September 12, 1706 in the presence of the Mayor's Escher and his two sons, the Vicar of Kyburg and several members of the Landsberg family.

The community has since the 19th century by emigration lost most of their inhabitants. Lived at that time still 1432 people in Sternberg, so, the statistics of 2006 was only 356 inhabitants from. Not least because of the merger of the municipalities Bauma and Sternberg was decided on January 1, 2015.

Infrastructure

Sternberg has the primary school Wies, which also has a built- kindergarten. The Reformed village church stands in the center of the small community. It began in 2002 and no longer own post office, this was converted by the Swiss Post in a home-delivery service.

Since the year 1971, there is a ski lift in Sternberg. This was initially installed on Schatzböl and was moved to its present location Rossweid a year later. The operating company was converted into the form of a cooperative ski lift Sternberg 1987. Beginning of the 21st century, the old ski lift was completely demolished and replaced with a new lift.
