Steve Powell
Stephen "Steve" Powell ( born September 20, 1955 in Derby, England ) is an English former football player who achieved particularly by his players joining Derby County notoriety. 1972 and 1975 he won the English league title with his team.
Career as a player

Steve Powell started his playing career in 1971 with the English club Derby County, for his father had already been active. Early age of 16 Powell made his debut under the coaching duo Brian Clough and Peter Taylor. His team completed the season with great success in the Football League First Division 1971/72 and secured the English title. The following year, Derby was thus allowed to participate at the European Cup of Champions 1972/73 and moved into this contest the semi-finals. Only there the club was denied by the Italian champions Juventus. His promoter Brian Clough was fired after this season at odds with the board, but also under his successor Dave Mackay to Powell could claim in the team. In the 1973/74 season derby reached a good fourth place and was able to increase again this placement the following year. It was followed by the second championship title after 1972 in the Football League First Division 1974/75. Participation in the European Cup of Champions 1975/76 this time ended in the second round. After a 4-1 home win Derby County failed in the return match with 1:5 after extra time at the Spanish champions Real Madrid. After a fourth place in the Championship 1975/76 County started in the UEFA Cup 1976/77, but failed again in the second round by AEK Athens.
After the next three years, the rankings in the championship worsened each, Powell rose with his team in the Football League First Division 1979/80 from the first division from. The club missed the direct return to the First Division and got into the 1983/84 season even starting in the third league. After a missed promotion to the following year Powell ended his playing career in 1985 at the age of only 30 years.
In the 1990/91 season he coached the unterklassigen club Burton Albion.
