Steve Rothery

Steven "Steve" Rothery ( born November 25, 1959 in Brampton ) is the guitarist of the British neo- prog group Marillion.

Biography

Since he was 15 years Rothery plays guitar. In 1979, he became aware through an advertisement in a British music magazine to a band called The Silmarillion, which was looking for a guitarist. After a successful audition on August 19, 1979 Rothery became a member of the band. Since that time, he focused more on melody, composition and mood of a song than on technique.

Steve Rothery is the only remaining member of the band Marillion. In addition to his work with Marillion, he founded the solo project " Wishing Tree " and released the album Carnival of Souls and Ostara.

For several years Rothery plays with Peter Trewavas and Steve Hogarth of Marillion as Los Trios Marillos scattered acoustic concerts in small scale on which essentially Marillion songs are played.

Rothery has two children.

Style

Steve Rotherys style is considered by many fans through the distorted and enriched with a lot of sustain Stratocaster than the typical Marillion sound. His guitar playing is mainly influenced by David Gilmour's game. How Gilmour sets Rothery greater value on the single note than on extensive fast-paced game and other technical details. Furthermore Rothery named in various interviews Jeff Beck, Larry Carlton, Andy Latimer and Steve Hackett as his other role models.
