Stian Hole

Stian Hole ( born March 20, 1969 in Hokksund at Drammen in Buskerud Fylke ) is a Norwegian graphic designer, children's book author and illustrator.

Life

Stian Hole was born in the small town Hokksund in eastern Norway. He holds a degree in visual communication at the National Arts and Crafts School in Oslo. With colleagues, he founded an agency that specializes in book design and typography. Stian Hole is one of the most sought-after illustrators and innovative picture book artists in Scandinavia. He designed, among other book covers for novels by Lars Saabye Christensen, Jostein Gaarder and Jan Guillou. In 2005 he dropped the gamle og mannen Hvalen (translated: The Old Man and the Whale ) be for children and adults alike before smartly styled debut as an author. Inspired by Ernest Hemingway's story The Old Man and the Sea, it depicts the life of an old, silent pair of brothers as the seasons change at the coast fjord in northern Norway.

Internationally known Hole was published in 2009 by the German on Garman's summer, which is about transience, farewell and fear of an unknown new. In digitally manipulated collages from photos, drawings and alienating elements such comically enlarged heads it tells of Garman and his old aunts, and the last summer before the six year old boy starts school and the seriousness of life. For Garman's Summer by Stian Hole was awarded among others with the Brageprisen, the most prestigious literary prize in his home country, the Bologna Ragazzi Award and the German Youth Literature Prize.

Stian Hole lives with his family in Oslo.
