Name

The band name comes from Friedrich Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra main back. The " quietest hour " refers to the fact the deepest and most quiet (and therefore most terrible ) moments of a person.

Band History

Oliver Uckermann making music since 1989, he was bassist of post - punk band, and involved in other, sometimes avant-garde projects. At the same time he wrote his first songs, but was thinking his own words for years not to a publication.

In 1998 he founded Still Remains aware as a solo studio project in order to make any compromises with other parties involved in the music must. In 1999 he took Birgit Strunz and inanis Kurzweil as accompanying singers added.

In the same year published Still Remains a demo recording called A person, a thing, a dream and were taken shortly after the label Alice In ... under contract. A person, a thing, a dream was officially released on 22 May 2000 and was well received within the black scene. Special mention was the more demanding texts and the experimental sound arrangements. The Orcus music magazine chose Still Remains the newcomers of the month.

The second plant origin paradox appeared in 2001 and years brought Still Remains recognition scene in circles beyond Germany. Stylistically, it resembles its predecessor. Birgit Strunz, who had been joined to the project just as vocal support two years ago took over, (as with all following albums ) full album artwork and the design of the homepage. So This is where they drew from that Still Remains would not only be the solo project of Oliver Uckermann.

2002 was their track from the depth of the debut album in an episode of the American television series Buffy - to hear the Vampire Slayer ( Season 7, Episode 2 ). The band found out about it but only in retrospect.

Published in 2003 their third album, Still Remains beast blood - two in one - a mental construct in 7 scenes that is created as a concept album. It is content marked by the history of a mixed nature of man and animal that lives and hunts, then himself becomes the hunted and become more and more aware of is that it might just be a construct in the thought world of his Creator in a forest. Formally, the work - apart from the prologue and epilogue - divided into seven scenes, each with 3 tracks. The most recent track every scene is so conceived that it can also be detached from the flow of the album belongs to loosen the nearly 80 - minute work. Beast blood ... is the last album on which inanis participates Kurzweil.

Appeared in 2005 with Blendwerk anti-art, the hitherto best-selling album of Still Remains.

Followed in 2008 by Rose and neuroses - a fine collection of the most cruel nightmares. in the Limited Edition a second CD named Alice EP is included, which focuses on musical adaptations of Lewis Carroll's fantasy worlds.

Music

Musical Influences

Oliver Uckermann emphasizes his passion for film scores, such as Danny Elfman and Christopher Young, and for late-romantic classical music, especially for Richard Wagner. He also love to hear post-punk, gothic rock and darkwave from the 1970s and 1980s (including Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, Joy Division ) and modern indie rock and atonal or dissonant contemporary music ( Arnold Schoenberg, Gyorgy Ligeti ).

Musical Style

The above- mentioned influences Still Remains put in a difficult manner comparable together again. Characteristic of flowing exchange between passages is spoken presented texts ( with background music, much like a radio play ) and " danceable " sections. The ratio of these two components to each other will change from song to song partly strong. The instrument linearization is sometimes mainly classical or acoustic ( especially on the album From roses and neuroses ... ), but sometimes strongly electronically (eg mill grinds on the album origin paradox). By his own testimony the duo is all compositions always mediated atmosphere most important.

Recurring themes

The lyrics of Still Remains often old German fairy tales or legends are (such as Krabat ) or other fantastic stories processed; about 3 albums across processed the duo elements of Lewis Carroll's Alice Through the Looking Glass, but in a far more sombre mood. Very often found in the texts also thought of Friedrich Nietzsche ( which was also used in the naming of the band) and other philosophers. The lyrical I in the texts is very often question our own perception, often even their own existence ( particularly on the concept album beast blood ... ). On her MySpace page, writes the duo, sword his music ...

Appearances

Still Remains understand yourself as a studio project and as such have no gigs. Oliver Uckermann justifies this with the fact that the music was inappropriate for public gigs. Contact with their fans they keep mainly through emails and online forums.

Trivia

Both Oliver Uckermann and Birgit Strunz are staunch vegetarians.
