Stockerau

Stockerau with 17,765 inhabitants (as of July 1, 2013 ) is the largest city of the wine district in Lower Austria.

The name derives Stockerau allegedly from the composition Stocker -Au from: the Au lumberjacks. The Stockerauer Au - the river forest between the city and the Danube - is still an important recreational area for the Stockerauer also occurred when the construction of the Danube power plant Greifenstein considerable interference in landscape and ecosystem. Geography

Stockerau is the largest city in the wine district and is located 25 km north- west of Vienna, on the northern edge of Tulln Basin, just a few kilometers from the Danube.

History

To 791 settled with working in the Au loggers the first people at the site of the present Stockerau to. 1012 Stockerau was first mentioned in connection with the Holy Koloman as " Stoccaerouwe ". The Lenautheater in Stockerau shows year-round game operating theater, music and cabaret performances. Artistic Director Richard Maynau.
