Stockholm Jazz Festival

The Stockholm Jazz Festival is an annual one week - a long time in mid-July - in Stockholm -find since 1980 Jazz Festival.

Originally it was called Stockholm Jazz and Blues Festival, Stockholm Jazz Festival later. One of the main venues was the port district with the island of Skeppsholmen, and accordingly there was a festival pass. At the very first festival in 1980 were musicians like Dizzy Gillespie, Gerry Mulligan, Pharoah Sanders, Stan Getz, Ray Brown, Benny Carter and James Moody and Scandinavian Arne page Domnerus, Svend Asmussen, Christer Boustedt and Georg Riedel.

In the next few years concerted inter alia Count Basie (1985) and Chet Baker (1983, 1985) on and off the Jazz BB King, Joan Armatrading, Lauryn Hill and Van Morrison (1990, 2004). From Sweden played there including the Esbjörn Svensson Trio, Nils Landgren Funk Unit, Peps Persson, Lisa Ekdahl, Monica Zetterlund and Viktoria Tolstoy.

In 2013, the festival will be held in October; planned are performances by, among others, Carla Bley, Cassandra Wilson with Harriet Tubman, Cindy Blackman, Lina Nyrberg with the Norrbotten Big Band and Avishai Cohen.

In Jazzathon finds a continuous jam session, each with over a hundred musicians for five days at the Clarion Hotel instead, in free improvisation. It began in 2008 as an attempt to break the world record.
