Stomu Takeishi

Stomu Takeishi (Japanese武 石 务, Tsutomu Takeishi, * 1964 in Mito ) is a Japanese bass guitarist of the Creative Jazz.

Takeishi began as a koto player. In 1983 he moved to the U.S. to study at Berklee College of Music. In 1986 he went to New York City. There he made a name for himself on fretless bass guitar as a member of Paul Motian Electric Bebop band in Henry Threadgills Make a Move and zooid, in Myra Melford's Crush Trio ( with drummer Kenny Wollesen ), and Erik Friedlander's Topaz ( with his brother Satoshi Takeishi as a percussionist ). With most of these groups, he also appeared in Europe. He also played with Don Cherry, Dave Liebman, Randy Brecker, Wynton Marsalis, Cuong Vu and Butch Morris. 2009 and 2010 resulted in Takeishi Kritikerpoll downbeat as Rising Star at the electric bassist.
