Stoner Rock

Stoner Rock is a style of rock music. She is also well known as Desert Rock. In English-speaking countries one finds frequently the term Stoner Metal.

Style

The Blue Rock are considered style icon as a base, low-tuned guitars, some of which are played through a bass amp, rattling drums, ethereal vocals to rock, strongly pronounced groove and a generally very bass-heavy sound. Occasionally there are also built -consuming " 20 - minute piece " with detailed body structure and long meditative and jamartigen sections. Typical is often a contrast between very soft and hard passages. Musically, there is a certain kinship with the Doom Metal, but this mainly limited to the guitar riffs, while the sound otherwise rather reminiscent of the harder of the psychedelic rock bands of the late 1960s and early 1970s, which for many stoner bands as a source of inspiration serve.

History

Stoner rock emerged in the early to mid- 1990s, when the great grunge wave to bands from Seattle already subsided. As a pioneer starred with Chris Goss ' Masters of Reality, Mario Lalli, whose band Yawning Man had great influence on the force as the epitome of stoner rock Kyuss.

Much like the grunge bands also Stoner rock bands operate in the major rock bands of the 1970s such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and others, however, sound Stoner rock bands in direct comparison groovy and psychedelic, hence the name ( " Stoner ," engl. " Kiffer ").

As the Mecca of Stoner Rock was in the 90s Palm Desert / California, where a scene of dozens of musicians, producers and artists has produced numerous projects. The most famous include Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Clutch, Masters of Reality, Fu Manchu, and Monster Magnet, however, came from New Jersey, where their own local scene had developed. These bands were world a vast amount of almost equal sounding imitators by itself, so that the beginning of the 1990s still fresh and original music coming therefore sank in a sea of mediocre imitators soon. Meanwhile, however, own stoner rock movement with his own bands and styles has emerged in many (mainly European) countries. Stoner is with many other styles of music merged (eg, Rock n Roll, Hard Rock, Southern Rock, Progressive Rock, Psychedelic, Blues, Metal). The best known representatives from Germany include the band Colour Haze, RotoR, Pothead, Samsara Blues Experiment and Smoke Blow, My Sleeping Karma.
