The Desert Sessions

Desert Sessions is a collaborative music project that was founded by Josh Homme and Brant Bjork.

History

After Kyuss had disbanded in 1996, Josh Homme joined forces with Brant Bjork 1997, the " Desert Sessions " project. Homme will later assume sole organization and management of the sessions, as Bjork would like to dedicate his solo career. These are always some musicians from different bands, mostly from the Palm Desert Scene, invited to make music together for a few days. Since there are no fixed structures and is much improvised, organizational as well as musical, you can see the Desert Sessions also be described as a jam project. Venue of the project has always been the Rancho De La Luna studio in Joshua Tree, California. Until now, the Desert Sessions series has ten parts. The first six have appeared on individual records (10 "), the parts 7 & 8, 9 & 10 on a double record.

Most musicians who were invited by Homme, the Palm Desert scene can be assigned. Among them, Brant Bjork, Dave Catching, Nick Oliveri, Mark Lanegan, John McBain, Josh Freese, Chris Goss, Alain Johannes, Dean Ween. During the first Desert Sessions are still almost entirely instrumental, and be based on the classic stoner rock, dive into the parts 9 & 10 with PJ Harvey or Twiggy Ramirez also musicians who do not belong to the environment of the Palm Desert Scene.

From the Desert Sessions ultimately Hommes band Queens of the Stone Age created.
