Å trba

Štrba ( Tschirm German, Hungarian Csorba ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia. It lies under the High Tatras, about 16 kilometers west of Poprad and lies 40 kilometers east of Liptovsky Mikulas.

The commune includes in addition to the main town also Tatranská Štrba and Štrbské Pleso ( since 2007). In Tatranská Štrba the administration of the Slovak Tatra National Park is housed.

The name goes back to the location of the village in a " gap " (Slovak štrbina ) between the High Tatras and the Low Tatras.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1280 as Czorba. In the 19th century tourism, which is determined up to now the town developed.

Transport links

The municipality has a highway connection to the motorway D1 since the end of 2007 and is located on the railway line Žilina - Košice. From Tatranská Štrba to Štrbské Pleso a cog railway that connects Strbske Pleso to the Tatra Electric Railway runs.
