Streda nad Bodrogom

Streda nad Bodrogom (Hungarian Bodrogszerdahely or older also Szerdahely ) is a municipality in the south-east Slovakia. It lies in the East Slovakian lowland at the foot of Zemplínske Hills to the Hungarian border, about 37 km from Trebišov and 70 km from Košice.

The village was first mentioned in writing in 1320. Until 1918 it belonged as part of the Kingdom of Hungary to the county Semplin. Afterwards the place came to the newly created Czechoslovakia, but was due to the First Vienna Award from 1938 to 1945 back to Hungary.

The lowest point in Slovakia on the river Bodrog with 94 m nm is in place. The town has a station on the railway line Košice - Chop.

In the village live about 2400 inhabitants, of which 60 % Hungarian and 36.4 % of Slovak origin ( 2001).
