Sunn O)))

Sunn O))) (pronounced [ sʌn ], often [ sʌn oʊ ] ) is an American Drone Doom band. It was founded in 1998 as a side project of Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson as a tribute band to the American group Earth. Your name refers to the Sunn amplifier manufacturer.

Style

Sunn O))) plays predominantly Drone Doom. Comparatively long pieces with very slow rhythms and broken clocks that are filled with deep droning sounds, make an impact more on atmospheric level. The tuning of the guitar is offset as with seven- guitars, just a whole step down.

The written representation of the name of the group goes back to their logo, which should be showing behind the text " Sunn " from a center outgoing waves. The logo is an imitation of Bild-/Wortmarke of the amplifier manufacturer Sunn whose amplifiers are widely used in this music genre. The ambivalent name "Sun (s) " was originally also intended as an allusion to the band Earth, to indicate that the twist one around the other.

The Mayhem singer Attila Csihar acted on the albums White 2 and Monoliths & Dimensions as a guest singer and performing live with the band on. Sunn O))) also collaborated with Merzbow, Boris and Julian Cope. In addition, their album ØØ Void by Nurse with Wound was remixed.
