History

The colors and dispute the initiative violet and white

In April 2005, the plans of the Red Bull GmbH have been known for a stake in Austria Salzburg, whose fans were available to the project, due to the poor financial situation of the association, a positive move. In Austria the renaming of a sports club is relatively normal, many teams in football or hockey bear the name of a sponsor, usually in order to rehabilitate their finances and increase their budget. Usually done such breaks but with regard to the tradition of the club, which is only made subtle changes. In this case, it was a radical organization restructuring, which amounted in effect a takeover of the club - Red Bull could be committing the sole right of appointment to the Board of Directors in the statutes of the association - that establishing the initiative and a power struggle between the fan scene of Austria and the new De facto owners led. Contentious issues were the lack of acceptance of the club's history ( the new leadership was originally a founding year of the association in 2005 at what was only reversed under pressure from the OFB ) and especially the tradition colors purple and white, which on paper while still official club colors remained, but were not practically nonexistent. Red and white replaced the traditional colors of purple and white - not only as the color of the jerseys - and the Red Bull logo supplanted the club crest.

In response to the traditional enemy redesign of the association on the part of the new owner founded the initiative Fans Violet White, whose first aim was the preservation of the violet- white club tradition. Acts was placed on several levels: on the one hand, it was negotiating with leaders of the association, on the other hand, actions were carried out as the peaceful storming and occupation of the square during a friendly game.

The talks broke down definitively, as Red Bull as the only compromise a violet captain loop on the shirts only offered a small purple logo of the new equipment supplier Adidas and purple pipe for the Goalkeeper. During the first half of the season 2005 /06, the Fanlager of Austria was divided into traditional violet fans and new Red Bull fans. Protest banners, chants, still purple and choreography of the fans still worn purple jerseys and scarves were also an expression of the rejection of Red Bull and Dietrich Mateschitz.

During the talks, but increasingly, after the break, there were several incidents between the traditionally-minded fans and the leadership of Red Bull Salzburg. For more excitement, the conversion of Fansektors of a saw standing in a seat sector and sweeping pronounced house prohibitions against alleged rioters from violet fan circles, but were undone in part.

Solidarity of the fans and the media echo

In Austria and in many European stadiums there were solidarity rallies of supporters' groups with the purple fans. Their protest is commonly understood as a clash of football fans against the progressive commercialization of sport and support accordingly. Contrary to the usual rivalry between the supporters of different clubs, the developments have resulted in Salzburg to the fact that the football fans understood as a unit and together act " against modern football ". The aim is to preserve the tradition and identity of each association and to prevent the clubs to be pure advertising. The fans see themselves as tradition bearer, as the players, coaches and Board change. In particular, in the ultras movement was the vehemence with which the Salzburg fans resisted the new identity of their association, welcomed and supported.

Overall, followers of all Austrian first division side have solidarity with banners and choreography with the initiative violet and white, as are the fans of most second division. In Germany, the fans of many Bundesliga clubs have expressed their solidarity, in part, the curves in the lower leagues. In total there are 23 football supporters' clubs from Austria, 53 from the rest of Europe and even two from the USA, who have declared their solidarity with the initiative. Such a merger and content among fans is new in the Austrian and European football history. Prominent soccer players and coaches such as Hans Krankl, Paul Scharner, Toni pepper, Ernst Dospel and Herbert Prohaska support the initiative of purple fans.

Also various television stations such as ZDF or ARTE documented in the run-up to the Football World Cup in 2006 reinforced the activities of the initiative purple and white and the creation of the new association to learn how to use the football fans with the commercialization of their sport. In the issue dated February 2008, the business magazine brand eins went under the title The twelfth man detail on this subject.

Formation of a new Austria

After the failure of negotiations with the new club officials, the majority of purple fans withdrew from the stadium. The goal was the creation of a new Austria Salzburg. The first such step was the establishment of the association by registration in the register under the name of sports club Austria Salzburg on 7 October 2005.

The club's foundation as the last step of the protest has its precursor in England. Already in similar cases in London, where the AFC Wimbledon was formed in response to the move of Wimbledon FC, and Manchester ( after the purchase of Manchester United by Malcolm Glazer protests culminated in the new club FC United of Manchester ) have the new clubs on a longer period bind their followers.

The new club soon had about 800 members and a large following. In order to enter into playing as soon as possible, negotiations with the football section of the PSV / black and white Salzburg were performed, which eventually led to a syndicate for the spring of 2006. It was played in purple and white jerseys, bearing the club crest both clubs. At the end of the season, however, the cooperation has been terminated because the part of the PSV not guarantees of future outsourcing the football section was added.
