Sven-Ã…ke Johansson

Sven -Åke Johansson ( born 1943 in Mariestad ) is a Swedish composer, musician, writer and visual artist.

Life and work

Johansson began as a drummer in dance bands, then played in groups around Bobo Stenson and in Spain and France with Ran Blake. He was then involved in the first recording session of the Globe Unity Orchestra, and in 1967 member of the trio of Peter Brötzmann Peter Kowald with, with whom he also played on the album Machine Gun. He lives in Berlin since 1968 and has been involved with Brötzmann, Kowald, Manfred Schoof and Alexander von Schlippenbach as well as its modern northern European village music to the development of the European version of free jazz and free improvisation music. He then took on a first solo album rolling country and formed with Alfred Harth and Nicole Van den Plas, the trio EMT. Even then he used unusual materials ( eg foam, telephone books, etc. for percussive effects). Then he focused on the still existing duo with Alex Schlippenbach, in which he played the accordion and amplified spontaneous poems recited. At the premiere of his Paul Lincke music for small ensemble (1977 ) first appeared Conrad Bauer and Ernst -Ludwig Petrovsky based in West Berlin. With the latter, Hans Reichel, Rüdiger Carl and he made the Bergisch -Brandenburg Quartet. In its northern European melody and improvisation orchestra had, inter alia, Carl Reichel, Wolfgang Fuchs, Radu Malfatti, Maarten Altena and Norbert Eisbrenner with. In his Ol 'Man Rebop ensemble playing and Others Ulrich Gumpert and Axel Dörner. 2001 it is on HatHut with pianist Per Henrik Wallin, the duo album Proclamation I.

Johansson can not be reduced to its nearly 40 records and CD recordings, but also has several books of poems and other texts published and is (with numerous exhibitions ) came as a painter active in appearance. He has also initiated music productions such as " The Rake and Spade " or "On the cause and effect of the disagreement at the Tower of Babel" (together with Alexander von Schlippenbach ). In 1996 he performed a concert for twelve tractors in Leipzig, which was performed again at the sound of footsteps in the Tyrolean Schwaz 2013. He also brought in Berlin with a star-studded group of his stage play " The rake and spade " premiered.
